Graduate Assistantship Job Interview Experience

Graduate Assistantship Job Interview Experience

I recently joined BSU at Massachusetts for a graduate program in Computer Science, because why not? I am into computers and interested in learning more about how things work. I heard that we can apply for On campus jobs through the job portal. So applied for a few of GA positions. Among all the posts I applied for, I got a Interview call from the Maxwell Library for the interview. I thought that the meeting was a one on one inperson interview, the person who scheduled the interview is the librarian who incharge for the digital services of the library, such as the website and the webapps that are associated with the online library.

I thought the interview is one on one in-person interview. Because from where the place I come from interviews are usually inperson, little did I think about covid-19 pandemic. I told my timings where I will be available. Then shen sent me a zoom interview link. Little did I about that it was in zoom. Then I sent her a follow up mail apologizing for assuming it was a inperson and said I will be able to take it up anytime, that day or that week inorder to respect her time and work. She responded with a meeting time that day itself around 4pm.

The time came and meeting started. She introduced herself and I introduced myself, she told me about the job and the work I need to do. what is expected and what could be work timings. My Visa permits me up to 20 hours/week of work on campus during study and I was expected to work 3 days a week for around 6 hours and also manage my study in that time, which is a lot of sacrifice, but I thought I could do it. For the interview, she gave 2 tasks, which was quite simple in nature, The first one was, She gave me an image, . DSC_0007.JPG In the middle left side of the picture is a small letter, it looks a bit crooked and misaligned, my task was to align it straight. I didnt know how to photoshop the picture, I googled for a online tool that could edit images, I clicked on the first link, uploaded given image to the site, thought of a rough idea to straighten the image. cropped of the image re-aligned and overlapped with the old one. Now that one is done. The next subtask is you can see there is a happy girl in the middle right, the image is spoiled by backscatter. She asked me to correct the backscatter, I tried all sorts of possible things the site had and came up with a way to correct it finally. The finished work

DSC_0007.jpg The second task was to print time using javascript, Which I did it using the date object and finally finished with all the tasks. She was ok with my work and sent me a offer letter later on. I hope I will work as she expects in the coming days.
